Samar o jedzeniu

Hi!

My name is Samar. I am half Lebanese, half Polish, born in Leningrad, currently living in Warsaw.

As a graphic designer by profession, I have completed multiple projects in that field and I have extensive experience in advertising as well. I released two bestselling culinary books „Hummus, za’atar and pomegranates” and “Mint, saffron and cardamom” (which have not been published in English yet). I am an expert in Middle East cuisine and a finalist of the third edition of Polish MasterChef.

My new beginning, which was definitely a massive twist both in terms of my personal and professional life, started a few years ago when I met my now husband, Gregory. The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach – they say. It is thanks to Greg that I found the courage to take part in MasterChef, where I got commended by Gordon Ramsay and Michele Roux Sr, among others.

My focus now is on cooking, writing about my culinary experience and sharing what I have learnt myself from people closest to my heart – my friends and family. For me personally, cooking is a magical way of tasting the world using all your senses. It is a whole plate of colours and a space for experiments. It unites your closest ones together and allows them to follow the journey into the unknown... flavours. My inspiration lies in the spirit of two strikingly different cities: modern and harmonious Warsaw, and lively Beirut which does not sleep at night. Living between the two places, each of them being close to my heart, I bring the two cultures together, sharing their values and giving a new light to traditions and customs.

I love homemade food based on traditional recipes, and I am a big fan of good natural produce. In my day to day kitchen I take what I like from both Lebanese and Polish cuisines and mix the two together. I like to spice it all up with my culinary secrets stolen during my travels. I believe in the saying „you are what you eat” hence I actively support Sanvita Institute of Healthy Nutrition and Clinical Diet and  the programme “Menu for Diabetics”. I also teach how to best eat during pregnancy and how to keep a balanced diet for the whole family.

I am a happily married wife and mother of my little princess, Mia. In my spare time, I love being outdoors, going for long walks with our adopted member of the family, west highland white terrier Brandy, watching good movies (I have no memory for the titles) and reading books. If I happen to have a few day holiday, I love to explore new places – not necessarily with a map and a strict daily itinerary.
